Bent case shoulders

Was prepping some 308 brass the other night and noticed that when I was full length sizing (redding dies)some cases they would come out with a dent in the shoulder ! What am I doing wrong ? To much case lube and wax or am I stroking them to hard into the die ? Thanks for the help Isaac

Too much lube. Does it every time.

I haven't looked, does Redding have a vent hole into the shoulder to let excess lube escape?

Clean your dies with a cue tip and alcohol. Apply ONLY a "light" coat of lube for resizing. I use strictly Redding Dies in several calibers for resizing and have not experienced those dents caused by lube that some folks talk about. Now I have had a dent or two, but those were caused by junk caught inside the die that the lube picked up such as a small piece of the brass cleaning media. Just make sure your dies are clean inside each time you resize.

Busdriver: No such vent holes in my 6mm, 6.5mm or .308 Redding FL dies.

Captianzeke,

Shoot as normal, and they'll blow out upon firing. No permanent damage, just unsightly, and a clear indicator that you over lubed. Use a bit less next time, and they shouldn't reappear. Not a big deal at all.

As does Lee. Funny you mentioned Redding as my .223 die from them is a major case denter even if all I use for lube is only what comes from my hand after I wipe them real clean. It also has to do with trapped air, not just lube.
