Benefits of Taller Scope RIngs?

Is there any advantage or disadvantage of using taller scope rings in short range benchrest?
The reason I ask is, I'm having trouble with over the ear hearing protection hitting or at least touching the stock.
I'm shooting the 30BR in VFS, mostly at 100 yards.

I've tried several different types of hearing protection and none have worked as well as over the ear muffs, but they are rather large and when I am in my best sight picture position, they just barely touch the stock.

My options are higher scope rings or off-set rings. I'm reluctant of the off-set, but they would solve a lot of the problem. I can envision the off-set creating other problems though.

I'd like to hear other options or suggestions.

another reference:

If you shoot standing there is an advantage to higher scope mounting, it lessens the need to tilt your head. Tilting your head adversely affects your balance.

A higher ring height isn't going to help unless you are currently crushing your face into the stock now. If cheek weld is currently good, your comb needs to come up as much as you raise the scope.

Muffs used to drive me nuts touching the stock. I set em high as I can and have gotten used to it. I use electronic muffs with plugs too almost all the time now. I suggest just using the lowest profile muffs fit high as you can on your head. In 1k rounds you won't even notice them hitting the stock. Plugs cut the wind noise on electronic muffs and really help my flinch when doubled up.
