Benchrest Central aka BRC

Just an observation and sort of a reply to those over on BRC wondering about the current state of affairs over there. Since Wilbur passed Elmer seems to have been AWOL and unresponsive. No new members, no fixes for members with log in problems, etc… Mby he doesn’t have time for it and is going to let it die a long slow death? It’ll be too bad if it does die. I myself attempted to change a password awhile back but something went wrong and I can’t log in. The password reset feature doesn’t work. I tried contacting Elmer multiple times to no avail. I tried to create a new account and although it was approved I don’t have permission to post or comment so I gave up.

All i see over there is the same as here. Like a re-run.
It's like going to another hang out and the same ppl are at both talking the same things.
I do like the way classifieds are broken up into tighter categories.

I’ve been acting up over there because I don’t see eye to eye with Alinwa on many fronts, the least of which is his attitude that he’s right and you’re wrong. I’m almost hoping Elmer takes notice and kicks me. As others have said, it just isn’t the same.

I have shot with Alinwa and his in person personality is great......nothing like his online personae.....

I’ve viewed posts on Benchrest Central for several years. It use to be a great site to learn and share lots of stuff about precision shooting. Then for whatever reason Al in Washington felt the need to critique, criticize and mock the contents of most posts and the posters.

He knows everything about everything. Seems like lots of guys tired of his arrogant crap and now stay away from Benchrest Central .

There’s also now administrative issues since Wilbur’s passing.

I ran into login/password problems over a year ago and just stopped trying to get it fixed as well. I AM a fan of their classified set-up. alinwa is a stand-up guy to do business with if he reaches out to buy something from you.......It IS a shame to see BRC kind of circling the drain.

Regards
Rick

I, too, hope the demise of BRC is not imminent. The classifieds there are a daily check for me. I knew Elmer was ailing but did not know he had lost the battle. Now, it might be a tad much for his son (I think) to run by himself. It could present an opportunity for someone so inclined. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, “Complaining without doing something is whining.”

I don’t know what it takes in equipment to host a website. Wilbur was constantly fighting scammers and whatever they call those who would attack a website but I guess the battle was or is constant. If Elmer isn’t so inclined to spend the hours it takes to do this, it may be a business opportunity for someone. There is a lot of advertising revenue to be had, I think.

BRC at it's best was the forum for sharing ideas and info. Even then, there were many experienced people that viewed but never participated.

Serious Benchrest competitors...those who actually compete in registered tournaments (where the results are posted with names and scores ;) )...love to kick around ideas and thoughts on things. They're willing to share this info with people that want to do it the right way.

When people like Randy Robinett, Jackie Schmidt, Mike Ezell, Dusty Stevens, Butch Lambert, Bart Sauter, Dave Tooley, Alex Wheeler, Francis Becignuel and others make a statement or answer a question....I have my ears open, put my brain in neutral, clear my head of any preconceived notions and am ready to l-e-a-r-n. ;)

That's because these people, and others, have the bonifides from actual competition, records, and National Championships to back up what they say. They've earned their chops the hard way....in actual competition.

When the flags are blowing, guns on both sides are going off and the clock is running....how hard you should 'theoretically' seat your primers, is the base-to-ogive exact on every round, should you have that newest $1,000 press or double throwdown electronic powder measure that slices, dices and makes Julliene fries out of each powder kernel, blah, blah, blah....all of this means less than zilch. It's between you, the target, the clock and the wind flags. And the things the wind flags don't show show you. ;)

And everyone has something positive to contribute. All we have to do for a resource like BRC to die is simple. Nothing.

Good shootin' :) -Al

A men Al, Ive learned more on that site than all the other ones combined. Bought a used benchrest 6ppc from Ron Hoehn. Welcome to a new world. A novice like me was shooting little bity groups. The site aint what it used to be for sure. I hope it comes back. The list of guys you mentioned , you cant imagine how much shooting knowledge they have between them. As far as weighing down to the kernal, Ron told me once he got his Harrells set with n133 he didnt he didnt worry about it. He just charged em and shot em. I saw alot of the old names here from b. r. central, so I joined. Doug

Any site requires a lot from the owners. BRC went AWOL on me a while back on password update/change.

I hope that this site can expand to take on the very dedicated competitors over on BRC because it is on Life Support at this time.

Signed up months ago and only shows me signed in, can't post anything though.

Same here. I’m guessing that first part is automated and Elmer has to punch the final approval button to be able to actually participate.
