benchrest action ??????????????

I am seriously looking for a benchrest rifle. I have come across several good deals and some fine people. Is there any one custom action that shines above the rest? And whats the scoop with aluminum actions? Will they last as long as steel? Are they better than steel? I kinda like the stolle panda RB,LP actions. are they a good action? I know lots of questions again! I need to do this right the first time!! Thanks Lee

Here is a link that has the top 20 equipment list at the Super Shoot last week. You see a lot of Bat 3 lugs in that list. It seems to be the 'in' action. True BR shooters have to have the latest and greatest to try and get an edge on everyone else. True probably is as long as it is square and true and cycles easily, the action is secondary behind the shooter, the tune of the load, and the barrel. Top benchrest shooter Tony Boyer doesn't mess with the new stuff and won with his trusty old Hart action. Go to a benchrest and handle a few actions. Pick the one you like.

If you look at the results from the Super Shoot I think you will find Bat is the hot action at this time. There are many good actions. The Panda actions have a steel insert and I don,t think you can wear one out in two life times.
As to Tony Boyer yes he won the HV agg with his old Hart and The LV agg with a Bat 3lug.
You should try and find a mentor who is close to you to help and answer questions.
Buy a used rifle designed for BR and get to learning.
Find a match somewhere and go and watch and ask questions.

Check out the Benchrest forum and you'll find a ton of info there and they also have a lot of benchrest rifles for sale.

The aluminum Stolle is a great action and has stood the test of time. There are a lot of great actions being made.

You might want to check classifieds below and look at the Panda 6ppc with Leupold 36x and other equipment for $1900. That is a fine action with Hart barrel and all the bells and whistles, and the price is great.

If you build using a Stolle and don't do well, it would likely be you. I have a Kodiak, and am working a deal on a Panda. Both RB/LP.
