Benchmark..

Went to the range to try Benchmark in my 30BR with my Fowler 118's... 36.0 grs. and 10 five shot groups later I had 10 nice groups...not one shot outside the group!! I also learned that If I don't clean after 20 shots the groups open up accordingly. Now if I can get some of the horizontal {wind] out of them it's gonna be great! Good shooting, Gary.

That's interesting, Gary. Back in '07 when my rifle was new, I shot a few groups with Berger 110s and Benchmark, wasn't impressed, decided to use H4198 which gave impressive groups, and have never tried Benchmark again. Any idea what fps you are getting with that load?

I can shoot an entire match without cleaning my 30BR using H4198. Was your Benchmark just a "dirty" load? Light load? Does you barrel foul quickly with H4198?

I think I'm just kind of a clean freak at times. What happened is I sent my 1st shot of my 5th group down and some folks threw the light switch and went down and set targets, and checked targets while down there...15 minute wait before the next shot. Thats when the group started to open up. As for speed I did'nt have my Crony out that day...but I'm pretty sure it was around 2960-80 fps or the groups would not have been so uniform, at least out of my barrel...20 1/2 inch. I've never got this consistent groups with any other powder. It may be worth another try.

Where would your start using 4198 with 68/70gns in 6BR?

..for that weight bullet you wouldn't use 4198. You could use 4895 or Benchmark
Benchmark for 70br. starts at 29.7=3019fps. to 31.6=3227fps.

just got in from the range with my 30BR with Fowler 117gr. and Benchmark 36.0grs. The Sun came out halfway through, switching winds, and barrel mirage [we have to shot through a set of 3 barrels for noise reasons]. All in all I'm very happy with the loads groups...even though I'm the shooter! Not as learned as a lot of these folks, but getting better. Good shooting, Gary
