Bench Set Up

I need to get the forum's advice on what I need to purchase in order to have a good setup for shooting from the bench. I live in Georgia and will be shooting at ranges that are mostly 100 yards to 200 yards. I recently purchased a Cooper 22-.250 and Swarovski scope. I also got a good Leupold 20 - 60x80 spotting scope. I want to become really accurate with this gun at 200 yards.

I want to get a bench setup that I can take to the range and hone my skills. I don't know if I will ever be a competitive shooter, so I don't need the absolute best, but I don't want to skimp either. I am not sure what components I need on the bench. I can't tell if I should get a "sled" or just a front rest and a rear rest. For the front rest and rear rest, what to forum member recommend in terms of makers and models? What do members use for "sleds"?

Here is an obvious question ... in addition to the front and rear rest (or the bench), should I get some sandbags in case the bench is too low, or the seat is too high? What do you guys do when the bench does not fit your body size?

Also, should I get my own stool, with an adjustable height?

Also - are there any modern books written that can give me advice on setup, shooting technique, etc. that I can read so that I am knowledgeable about the basics. I am a pretty good shot, but I have never been exposed to "precision shooting"

Any advice you can give me on this subject is really appreciated!!!!! Thanks in advance for your help.

Just for varmint hunting--

Our "cheap" benches are made of 3/4" form ply, with folding table legs. The legs fold up to make a handle to carry it by. A 5 gallon bucket for a seat, which holds the rest and sand bags when carrying it to go shoot. As for the rest Bullets.com has some for the money, and Protector rear rabbit ears.
Making sand bags out of old shot bags is what we made ours out of.
You can use a cushion stool seat , and the bench will still be correct, comfortable height, if you 5.5'-6' tall.

I am curious if anyone has plans for a portable bench made with schedule 80 PVC. I like the idea of using a 5gal bucket for a seat and storage.

For your intended use I would recommend the following:
*From Bullets.com - a Bald Eagle front rest # BE-1128
* a cordura front and rear bag from Protektor ....call them and tell them what stocks and rest you have.
* An adjustable shooting stool from Bruno's or Sinclair. With an adjustable stool and adjustable rest you should not have to add "spacers" to get on target at most ranges.
Good books on bench set-up are 1/ "Extreme Rifle Accuracy" by Mike Ratigan and 2/ "The Book Of Rifle Accuracy" by Tony Boyer.
Do NOT even consider any form of Led Sled.

also got a good Leupold 20 - 60x80 spotting I want to become really accurate with this gun at 200 yards.
Since you said "REALLY" accurate- spend $3 and buy flagging ribbon and place at a intervals between you and the target.....This is not optional...it's a MUST.

Get an ice fishing bucket. Usually have extra storage pockets and a lid with a cushion built on it for a seat. If you don't live in a cold climate where folks ice fish, I'm sure you can order them online.

Here's a good example of one in this link
