Bench Length

I shoot off a wood bench, very sturdy and it seems to work fine. I use a Bald Eagle front rest. However none of the muzzles on any of my guns extend past the edge of the bench. Does this matter-should there be no portion of the bench under the muzzle?

I wouldn't worry to much about it, all mine don't either, especially my XP-100's and they seem to do just fine with wood a few inches under the barrel.

I'm not sure there is a performance issue, but IBS benchrest rules require that the muzzles of all rifles extend beyond the edge of the bench. I've always thought that was to keep the muzzle blast from blowing dust, etc., onto adjoining benches but I'm not sure.

It depends on how close the muzzle is to the benchtop, and how far back from the leading edge of the bench. An asymmetric muzzle,i.e., AK-47 compensator) is an extreme example of both. The "spoon bill" extension on an AK muzzle reduces the climb of the weapon in full automatic fire. It also causes a greater initial yaw on the bullet. This yaw can increase dispersion downrange.
