Bench accurate 22-250 bullet advice

I’m looking for the best match 55gr bullet for reloading my 22-250 ammo. Sierra, Berger? Bench shooting, not necessarily hunting.

Berger and Sierra both make accurate 55 grain bullets. I’ve used a lot of the Sierra 55s over the years hunting varmints. But in my 22-250s over the years, the very best accuracy comes with the 52 grain bullets from either maker.

55 grain Flat Base Varmt / Target, Bergers # 22311 and the 52 grain Berg. Varmt's #22309 shoot, REAL "Well" for Me, in my 14 twist Rem. With H-4895 and IMR 4895.
The 52 and 53 grain, F Base, Sierra MK's,.. Do "Well" also !
I'd Test these, 4 Bullets, in your Rifle

Custom bullets are going to be best. But if you don't want to go that route I would choose Bergers

Never bothered with 55s in the bigger cased 22s. They never seemed to shoot as small as lighter bullets. Longer 55s are maybe marginally stable in 14 twist?

When 1st loading for the 22-250 I snagged last year, I burned up the last of a couple hundred 52gr FB benchrest bullets from a custom maker that have been on the shelf since early 90s, then tried 52 Bergers. They shot about the same... around 1/4" +/- with a variety of powders. Just shot some 52 Barnes Match Burners today & they seem to do as well as the Bergers while being a bit cheaper. Will need more testing.

Also FWIW, an old lot of Hornady 53 Match was what shot best in a 22-250 Ackley. A newer lot seemed about the same until the barrel finally gave up. 50gr Hornady SX & 50gr Sierra Blitz were not far behind & are more than impressive on groundhogs to over 400 yds..

All the above near full tilt in 14 twist barrels.

My experience with the great 22 250 is that with 14" twist rifles, the 50 grain bullets shot the best group wise. This was the twist in most 22 250 rifles before the "heavy bullet" craze developed. These days some factory rifles have 12" twists, customs, even faster which would lend them to longer bullets for ultimate accuracy.

While I never shot "match" bullets per se, I shot a lot of Nosler BT's, 50 grain (14" twist) which with an appropriate powder shot in the .2's and /3's out of a stock Rem 700 Varmint rifle with a bedded stock. That's not benchrest competition grade but for the average recreational target shooter that's pretty darn good, often beyond the consistent skill capability of a lot of shooters.

Most competitive target shooters I know shoot Berger.
