Bell the most famous Elephant hunter?

Can someone tell me what the most famous book is about this extraordinary man that talks about his firearms used?
I would also appreciate anyone saying the cheapest place to buy his books.

Thanks guys.

I have all four of them. They are all good. Probably Amazon would be the first place I would look. They shouldn't be expensive. $25.00-$30.00 I would guess, or in that neighborhood.

Google Safari Press.... ;)

I have three, I didn't know there was four. I have read them a few times and am in the process of reading, Bell of Africa now. They are all great, and they give many insights into the land, people, and times as well as rifles and the killing of elephants. You will love them. Barlow

'Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter' is the most famous of his books. If I recall correctly it is a series of essays regarding his elephant hunting between the end of the 2nd Boer War and WW1. The other books were written and published much later.

Peter Capstick, an African PH [Professional Hunter], originally a stockbroker from New Jersey, and above all a fantastic writer, covers in his books an array of PHs that could qualify as the best Elephant hunter.

Although Selous stands out in my mind [he used as I recall a .260 caliber occassionally] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Selous , it could also be Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen, or maybe Robert Ruark.

I've read all of Capstick's books and many more. Great stuff. :)

Actually, Bell is famous for shooting all of Africa's game with a 7X57 Mauser and 175gn bullets. His skill was heavy into bullet placement.

Another was "Pondoro" Taylor. Bell, Selous, Sutherland and Taylor all led interesting lives, and books by or about them are unfailingly interesting.

Though I suppose it makes many on here cringe, my all time favorite standard for rifle accuracy in the field was Bell's: 4" at one hundred yards - oh, and that was offhand with iron sights. I have any number of rifles that will shoot around or under 1/2" at 100 yards off a bench or bipod, I have seldom been able to meet Bell's standard off hand with iron sights with much consistancy. ::)

I second Nodak7mm's recommendation to google Safari Press; most of my books on African hunting and hunters have come from them.

Although not as famous as the British, abd perhaps more modest about their exploits, the french central african hunters of the era when commercial hunting was there permitted have probably records Superior to their British colleagues?
3 names cone to my mind : Kespars, Diemer (botjh of whom I knew personally) and Theodore Lefevre; who uwed for most the Lebel rifle that the french colonial administration was then supplying to every white living in the bish for their protection.

Most éléphants were shot in dense covers, and well, well Under 100 yards!!!.
