Beginner Reloading Setup - The Basics

Hi everyone, I've been lurking and searching on here for some time but have yet to come to a conclusion on a beginner's reloading setup. I currently shoot IPSC,production) and the odd Garand/DCM/Varmint match. I don't need a volume setup as my father does all my IPSC loading on his Dillon 650. What I need is a quality single stage setup that I won't want to replace in 6 months. I'm not looking for 1000yd accuracy as the furthest distance I can frequently shoot is 500yrds. I want good equipment but at the same time don't need the best. Main items I'm up in the air on are.

Single Stage Press,leaning towads Co-Ax), Beam Scale,Something I can always use as a ref. even if I go elec.), Powder Measure,totally confused) and Priming Tool,Thinking two Lee's the way to go)

I know I could go with the RCBS starter package but want to know if any better setups are out there. Besides it seems everyone just defaults to RCBS, I don't want to be "that guy".

You opinion is appreciated!

Actually the RCBS starter kit is not that bad. You get a lot for your money.

As far as a press goes I like the RCBS Rock Chucker. The Redding turret press is nice to, as you don't have to keep setting up your dies when you switch operations. My current go to press is a Harrell's turret press.

The RCBS beam scale is great.

For a powder measure goes look into a quick measure. http://www.quick-measure.com/qm.htm They can be mounted on a progressive as well. If you go electronic an RCBS Chargemaster is hard to beat.

I use a RCBS hand priming tool that uses their APS strips. I have one set up for small and one for large primers.

As for dies, I use redding Competition dies. There are a number of good die makers though.

You can always use your dad's 650. I use one to prep cases in volume, and a 550 to load 1000 yard ammo.

Better shooters than I have loaded their 1000 yard ammo on a 650, and beaten me conclusively while doing so. ,And I'm no slouch.)

All of the ammo for the 1992 Palma Match,long range match for national teams) was loaded on several Dillon 550s,I believe 4 presses). US team practice ammo for the 1995 Palma was loaded on a 650.
