How does one affix the press to the open top?

Bolt a 14” 2x8 or so board or even a small heavy cutting board to the top first, then bolt your press to that. To your earlier question, a Rockchucker press would be a good press.

Is that like the partner press with the accessory base plate?

Not the accessory plate but scrap aluminum third will clamp to just about anything. Sorry for the delay getting the pic.

Does that press seat pretty consistently? I've been lusting after a Harrells, but that Jr. Press is considerably cheaper.

I guess Im old school but Ive got a rockchucker mounted on my bench made of 2 by 4s with 3/8 bolts going thru a steel plate plus the 2 by 4s. I know you cant do that but make it as strong as you can for full length resizing. Doug

I had my rock chucker mounted on a lightweight single post stand for many years. 9 x9 inch square top. 1 3/4 inch pipe, 18" round base. 2 bolts for the press. Easy to store in closet, probably could just pull the press and use as a light stand rest of the time. Just needs a level floor.

That is a partner press. Yes it works consistently (your dies do the work not the press). Getting a custom press is money well spent just for the smoothness. I recommend saving up for a hood press from arkco machine.

I mounted my press to a Black and Decker Workmate. I either cranked the two top pieces together, or I put another section in between and then cranked it together, I don't remember. That worked well enough for a bunch of years. The bonus is that if you want to upgrade to a permanent bench, you don't have to toss this setup out. You could use this as a range loading setup, if that is your thing

I have a Lee breechlock I bought for load development at the range. Bullet seating only. Darn thing has flex in the linkage. You have to be very conscience of your motion to get consistent seating depth. Fortunately it typically only gets used on hunting rifles.

Yea any extra joints cause issues all the time. Get a good press that has threads and thatll fix that
