Before the garden get going!!

Before the garden gets going, I need to thin the rabbit population down a little.

Yesterday using a Browning BL-22 I bought in 1978 or 79 from J.C.Pennys for 127.00

And tonight a Glenfield I purchased at Holiday gas station in 1973 for 39.00. A brick of 22 shells were 5.00

Now I will get to eat my beans and peas.

I should have shot some last winter and ate them. The old saying, if the month doesn't have a R in it. Don't eat them. I don't know if it's true or not.

I eat those little fellas around here in any month. And there ain't nuthin wrong with me --- right??

After two hours simmering in a pot of mushroom soup in the oven they're disease free as any meat ya might want to eat. jd

Nice old .22 rifles . It’s amazing what you could buy a gun for in those days and where they were available. Brings back lots of good memories. Thanks for posting the pics.

Both rifles have shot 1000's of rounds threw them. I had to replace the dust cover on the bolt for BL-22. The Glenfield I have not did a thing to it. I will take it out of the stock and blow air thru the trigger assembly to clean it up. And a few drops of Breakfree on and behind the bolt.

12 years or so I gave 30.00 cash for a Glenfield and a sandwich baggie of shells. Went to my brother for garden patrol duty. Skunks, rabbits, opossum, stray cats. The other day he told me the baggie was getting low. I told him buy some, more than you think you will ever need.

Love my BL-22. I also have two Marlin 39s and at our shooting sessions everyone fights over the BL.
You gotta like that shorter throw lever.
I also bought my first gun at a Holiday gas station, a Marlin 336 .30-30 For 95 bucks! I wanted the Winchester 94 but it was $99 and I only had $100 to spend.
The cheaper Marlin left enough for a box of rounds too….
