Bedding???

Ok, guys I'm kinda new to trying to squeeze every ounce of accuracy out of a rifle and need some advice on bedding. The rifle is a LRPV with a new Benchmark in 6br. So my question is how should I bed it, do I just skim bed it or should I get after it with the Dremel and remove a bunch of material and bed it?

Thanks for the replies in advance!

I have experimented with using a dremmel and doing bedding jobs on my own. I can say without any doubt that its best left in the hands of someone that's experienced and has the proper tools. Most smiths charge around $150-$200 and in my opinion its money well spent.

Go over to the homepage and read the article on Stressfree Pillar Bedding. Doing it this way ALWAYS gives good results in my experience. Doing it some other way always leaves me wondering if the gun doesn't shoot like I think it should.

Hoier
When I did the wifes lrpv I removed a bunch of material in the lug area. I did remove material all over the bedding block so the action would set in the stock nice and centered; it never was from savage. When you bed the action I would not use any kind of tape or tubing to hold the barreled action in the stock. Just let it set in the mud stress free. I like to use tape in two places on the barrel to balance the barreled action in the stock. That way you don't need any tape or screws to hold the action down while the mud cures. This is the only way I have got a stress free bedding job.
