Bedding question?

I plan on bedding my Savage VLP DBM in the laminate stock that it came with. Well....Since I have owned this rifle I have applied on occasion spray RemOil to the action and the oil got underneath the action onto the stock. Perhaps soaked in a bit. Will JB Weld still adhere to the inletting and remain there during removal of the action after it has cured? I don't want to go to all the work to bed this action if it isn't going to stay there! Thanks!

Thanks preacher, I appreciate the help! I was wondering what I should do about that situation. Correct me if I'm wrong but what I was thinking about doing is taking a small drill bit and put 3-4 shallow opposing holes in the bottom of the stock. Someplace for the JB Weld to go and hold it in the inletting. Some places on this stock there is alot of wood and some places not so much, so I'm reluctant to try and cut any wood out.

I had the same issue with an older Browning that I bedded. I would suggest very carefully using acetone on a rag. Let it sit over the oil impregnated area, and it should suck up most of the oil. Repeat several times with clean acetone. Acetone can remove stock finish, so just be careful where you let it touch. Also agree with roughing it up, and doing the acetone thing again after that step.

Ron and jkohler, thanks! I wasn't sure how I was going to do this with the oil on it and all. Ron, I take no solace in knowing that I'm not the only one that has had this problem ;)!

Well guys, it turned out pretty good. A bolt that I cut the head off of and threaded into front action screw hole to use as a guide got seized up in the pillar but, got it out and everything is good. A little clean up with a dremmel and the bedding job was a success. Hopefully I will get to shoot it tomorrow and see if it groups any better. Thanks again for the help guys!
