Bedding question with new recoil lug

So my original bedding job the rifle had a thicker recoil lug. So now there is about a 70thou gap in front of the lug. Do I just fill this in with Devcon or does it not matter as long as I tap the action rearward when putting it in the stock?

Need clearance in the bottom of the lug recess so that the action can be pulled into the stock. A slight clearance on the front of the lug makes it much easier to remove and install the action in the stock. You can also taper the recoil lug to make installation and removal easier.

I used to bed everything but the bottom of the lug. Then once when changing a bbl I realized that there was no way the recoil lug was going to end up back in the exact previous location. I use the Savage method of recoil location but there is still the potential for the lug to shift as the bbl is tightened.

A slot at 6 o'clock in the front face of the receiver and a matching "pin" on the rear face of the recoil lug. Ideally the slot is a tiny bit smaller than the pin resulting in an interference fit.
