Bedding Question -- Barrel Channel limit

I know there are tons of threads about bedding an action but I can’t find an answer to a question I have. How do I keep the Devcon from going past the recoil lug and up the barrel channel? I’m bedding a Kelbly Nanook into an AG Composite stock. Will a couple loops of electrical tape around the barrel be sufficient to allow the barrel to float and keep the Devcon in place?

I usually use masking tape in the channel just ahead of the action and then mask the barrel up to the action. The bedding flows between the masked areas and can be cut away later.

Use a die grinder to trim down until it meets the tape line, then the whole thing snaps free.

You never want to impead the flow of the epoxy in any dirrection. That is how you trap air pockets. Let it flow.

Ditto what Alex has said. I put a wrap of tape in the stock barrel channel and one around the barrel shank. You don't want the gap too tight as it can work against the epoxy flowing.

On a flat bottom with no magazine, I provide side clearance and/or notches to allow for the same thing.

One other question. Do you guys dremel out any area around the recoil lug? Mine is really tight and I don’t think much Devcon will get in there.

Yes I open up the lug area.

I usually put a rope of putty in the barrel channel - the same material used to fill openings that you don't want filled with epoxy (magazine, trigger, etc.).
