Bedding material for plastic type stock

Doing this for a shooting friend and he said it had a full aluminum block and would not need bedded but it arrived and only has pillars. Told him it should be bedded with only the pillars but what material to use that will bond to that plastic? I have JB weld (slow set) and Pro bed on hand.

I've used JB weld with good results. I've read that you should clean the plastic really well first because there may be some mold release agent on the plastic. After cleaning I've roughed up the plastic really well with a dremel.

I've used Acraglass.
Didn't like it.
Even after curing for a week, you could still dig your fingernail into it.
I started using Devcon & really like it so far.
Much harder than Acraglass!

As mentioned, be sure to fully degrease before anything else.
Most epoxies will cannot get a good chemical bond to plastics. "Roughing up" the entire bedding surface is critical, but beyond that you need to get a solid mechanical lock so it can't break loose. With a drill or rotary tool, drill a lot of angled divots into the plastic. Be sure not to skimp here...and work the epoxy down into the divots when bedding. Be sure to remove enough material from the stock to get a decent thickness of epoxy- any paper thin areas will crack/peel away before long.

Not saying it's the best bedding compound, but if your Acraglass (or its 'gel' brother) doesn't harden within 24 to 48 hours, it's either a bad batch or has been open and sitting on the shelf too long. I had to clean out a bedding job and re-bed with fresh product once. Second time work perfectly. First time I had run into that problem but I won't forget.

I thought that too.
Had the gel first.
Got a regular Acraglass kit. Same.
Head scratching, bought another kit.

I'll stick with the Devcon.

Take this for what you paid for it, but here is my limited experience.

Took a Savage 12 FV stock, bedded a 1/2" keystock in the forearm and bedded the action in the stock. Roughed it up, used .005" spacers and stock pillars. Bedded with Deacon 10110.

The rifle shoots 1/2" or less for 5 shots. 22-250, so recoil is not severe. Most groups from a bipod sitting on the bedded keystock.

My take is clean the stock real well. Rough it up and put in the recommended cross cuts with a dremmel. Bed with a hard epoxy like deacon or jb weld.

Make sure you degrease well!
I use a spray ether (starting fluid) as it has no oils in it.
Do not use carb cleaner, as it does have oils in it.

On the Acraglass, i did use a digital scale to measure out. It just has too much flex for my liking.
