Bedding and glueing?

Ok im putting together a 30br with a Bordem BRM in a wood stock and im thinking of doing a pillar bed job with Devcon and glueing it as well.

My question is what needs to be done to the bedding job before glueing?

Can i simply do the pillar bed job , let it set than add a thin layer of jb weld to glue it in ?

Is there a different glue i should use? Should i rough up the bedding a little before applying the glue?

Thanks

I do a full on bedding job like it was just going to be screwed then scuff it up and glue it. I use devcon or marine tex for bedding and jb weld for gluing. I scuff it up in a pattern kinda like this with a dremel. 762C5CCE-FC1F-40F0-9ACA-B102EE99A986.jpeg

I came across a post somewhere where the smith would tape up the action with masking tape or electrical tape then apply the release agent to the tape when doing the initial bedding. The reason he stated was to keep the release agent off the action and the tape left enough room for the thin layer of glue.

Would that be a feasible option?

Also im assuming you do all of this with the complete barreled action and not just the action alone?

Dusty, why would you not just bed the stock without release agent to glue it? Why two steps?

I like the bedding to be thick and runny. Then i like to clean all that up before the precision glue. I use jb weld for the glue which is better imo than devcon or marine tex but they are better than jb for the thick bedding. Just always works for me

If you taped the action, bedded it, then removed the tape the action will sit in a different spot

So the JB weld doesnt add enough thicknes to worry about?

Im assuming the JB weld used is the standard 2 tube stuff?

Yes the red/black jb weld standard. If you look at the picture i posted youll see that 90% of the original bedding surface is still in contact and locates the action back in the correct spot. I scuff round actions the same way because i dont build screw in rifles for competition so i want the most tooth i can get to hold them. Theyll always be a glue in because thats the nature of the beast.

What method do you use to keep the jb weld out of the action screw holes and pillars if glue and screwed or off the barrel?

I bed normally then wash the bedding with cleaner/degreaser. I then sandblast the bed. I also degrease the receiver and snadblast that as well and glue the action in with Acraglas. For a less permanent glue-in, I have cleaned and blasted the bed but just cleaned the receiver and glued in with five minute epoxy. Truthfully, if I'm wanting to glue a rifle together, I want to glue it damn well. Otherwise, it's not a glue job. WH
