Bedding advice please

Hi All, I’m in the process of modifying my Rem 700 BLD. I’m going to be using this gun for the field precision matches here; which is why I’m going thru the trouble of swapping out the bottom metal. Plus, I thought it’d be a fun project… Anyway, I’m replacing the Remington bottom metal with a PTG Bottom Drop Magazine, pillar bedding, and glass bedding. I’ve never done this kind of thing with a rifle, and I’m not sure what order to assemble? As of now; I have the stock milled out to except the new BDM, and I have the holes drilled for the 2 pillars that came with the BDM. Also, I’ve removed material (about 1/8” +/-) from the stock around the receiver, barrel lug and up the barrel an inch for the Devcon to be applied.

Now for the questions: I’m not sure what would be best; should do it all at once, or break it up in stages? Doing it all in one sitting seems like a lot of operations going on at one time, but I’m sure I could get through it, if it were for the best outcome. If I break it up, I was thinking I’d epoxy the pillars, and possibly bed the trigger guard at the same time. And after that dried, I’d bed the receiver and barrel into place. Appreciate any help

Thanks, Charlie

I like to screw the pillars into the action with headless screws, and bed them, and the action all at one time.
Use lots of Kiwi polish, buffed down, and then another coat allowed to dry and buff that down.
Clay up all the nooks and cranny's that might cause a lock up...
Level the action with the barrel, and tape..
Don't try to compress the action into the stock, just let the barrel hold it in place...
The barrel should be fully floated when it all sets up.....
Go slow, double check everything, and you'll do fine...

If it needs it around it because you were generous with your inletting by all means do so for a nice job but none should be on top of your pillars.

I do the action, pillars, and lug at the same time. You may want to research more before tackling the job. Richard Franklin has a good DVD on this topic. Go to the home page and search in the technical articles "stress-free-pillar-bedding".
