Maybe, the FWC used to recommend a steel pole as tall as possible and to grease the entire length of the pole. The got in to one of my friends camps in the Indian reservation down south and i went to help fix the roof where the buzzards had eaten the modified roof material. The bears had opened #10 cans of beans by sticking their claws into the lid and ripping the can open. They ate every bean and every drop of the sauce, the can looked like it had been washed. I had a neighbor that when he was in big cypress as a kid he saw a bear climb a sable palm and grab the green tender heart at the top with both paws and jump out of the tree and pull all the heart right out with him as he fell. I didn't believe it and asked game and fish officer he told me he had never seen it but had heard it is a favorite of the Florida bears when no nuts or berries are available.

I have some funny stories about what led to this contraption.
Bears can open and break just about anything they can reach. I firmly believe the only match for bears is alien technology.

Lol, that set up here in Pa would get you life with no parole. I worked with a guy years ago who was give a commercial refrigerator with a key lock handle for use at his camp. The camp was a repurposed old school bus. Of course he could not get his new toy in the bus door so he set it on a cement pad outside with a roof over it. Late in the summer he got in steaks and seafood for his annual big party. Took it all up the day before and put it in the outside fridge and wrapped a chain around it with a padlock. Yep, went up the next morning to find the fridge door torn open and cleaned out. Seeing the pics made me aware of the brute strength a bear posses. While he was at it the bear ripped the bus door open and pretty much made a mess of the interior.

I took this one not too far from my house. Those things will eat all your food and try a kill you if you contest the issue. I guessed this guy at about 450 to 500 pounds.

You don't need to feed the deer. They have been finding food in the wild since the last ice age. I live in a city and it's estimated there are 2000 deer lliving in our city. They thrive and multiply like rats.

We use it as a short term attractant during hunting season to bring deer to our stands. This is common in the thick bush of Ontario. Without that, your chances of getting a clean shot is much lower. We use them for less than 1 month per year. Also, that extra high fall nutrition helps these deer through tough Canadian winters.

I feel bad for you guys living in the places that have all the restrictions on hunting and shooting. At my age I understand it better than I used to, it would be hard to pick up and move, leaving all you've known for a lifetime behind. I am grateful for my ancestors picking Arkansas to settle in the late 1700's because I wish I had a problem with bears getting in my deer feeders. It would be great entertainment solving that problem... John
