Beam scales - A new idea

Just thought you might be interested in a simple idea for us old old guys with tired eyes who still use beam scales.

The webcam with a laptop idea works really well, but not all of us have a spare laptop. No problem if you have a smart phone of some sort - take a look.

Nice one Allan, thanks for sharing.

Probably would work with an old "Dumb Phone" that has a camera function as well. With all the free phones that have been handed out by service providers, surely there's one in the drawer somewhere.

Don't forget Low tech for old farts, if picture does not appear not my fault, still low tech

I got to thinking about your "Low tech for old farts" comment. I qualify on both counts 8)

Yesterday I went rummaging around in my leftover lumber stash (I never throw away anything left over that's bigger than a cigar box) and found a perfect sized piece of melamine coated particle board.

Since I have a cabinet at the back of my bench, I just slipped this board between the boxes of loaded ammo stored there and the top of the cabinet. I now have a scale "platform" that when I look at it, it's right in the proper part of my trifocals for a nice clear view. The "reach" isn't bad at all and as a bonus it free's up bench top space for other goodies I seem to have all over the place.

If I still like this setup in a few months I'll just run a couple screws through the board so it won't fall off when I shoot up all the stored ammo.

The camera worked best for me because the scale sits way lower than my eye level while sitting. It's AWESOME

While we are on the subject of low tech, this setup allows a parallax free, magnified view with the scale at desk height. You are looking at an angles mirror through a magnifier.
