Beam scale drifting zero

Cant tell you how many times I've found a kernel under the pan sitting in the Phillips screw head on the ballast pan.
Usually happens from bumping trickler when lifting pan to dump charge.

This has happened even when zeroing scale then setting a charge weight and pushing on the pan (without powder) with your finger a few time than zeroing again being carful not to move the scale. I think if you try the zero test you will be surprised.

I’ve discovered a couple of reasons for that symptom, there’s always a solution to the puzzle perhaps I’ve just been fortunate to solve them on my personal scales.
The 10-10 is the tricky one with the rotating micro poise.

What are the reasons and solutions?

Regularly cleaning the beds or V-blocks and scraping pencil lead into them is what keeps my O-Haus built scale working.

I weigh the first charge, then charge a case and put it by the scale for calibration purposes. Every 5th or 10 charge, I pour the calibration charge back into the pan and make sure the scale is repeating. If not, recheck the knives, beds, level whatever it takes to get it reliable again.

I try not to push on the pan at all when weighing.
After scale is leveled I use a confirmed check weight to set zero on scale.
If I over trickle I remove pan before pulling kernels from pan.

My concern with a beam scale is after zeroing the scale then weighing 5 or 10 loads then go back and zero again it is usually different than the original zero. I don't see how if a zero can't be maintained that consistent powder charges can be measured.

It ain't always the scale itself. In my abode I've discovered and mitigated against two outside influences that are insidious, and no beam scale tuning can overcome: air drafts and static electricity. The more sensitive the scale, the more susceptible.

My first scale would change read if I moved the charge from one side to the other. Tap it level before setting on the scale was my answer to that.
