BE SAFE!!

TheBlueEyedBear

'The Nut Behind The Trigger'
This past weekend was the opening of the General Rifle Season here in Montana. There were some really good numbers as far as game taken but some really bad numbers for death in the field. There was a 17 year old shot while hunting Mule deer (particulars unknown); and, a 16 year old was shot by his sister as she was attempting to unload his gun.
Truly the sad part of hunting season!!

Be safe,, Amen to that! I spent last Thursday on the phone discussing the story CNBC aired on Wednesday evening about Remington. By 10AM (I start answering the phone at 8:30) my answer was; There are people that handle firearms every day, some once a week, some once a month, some once a year. It doesn't matter which group you're in, if you forget or ignor safe gun handling practices the results can be disasterous!

This is a topic that every gun owner must always keep in mind no matter of their chocie of shooting sport. With what Barry has posted I hate to read that kind of post! The first thing that comes to mind, Wonder if the young teens were tuaght safety? We all can guess as to what happen, but we are all human and we all make mistakes! The worst side of this is that Someone got hurt, and or Killed! Sad very sad! My condonlences, thought's and prayers go out to all of the Families that are or have experinced something like this! As well we all as gun owners must always go above and beyond the call of duty to teach and educate as many young people, or anyone for that matter as much as we can about guns!! How to handle a gun, and treat a gun anytime their hands are on the gun. My uncles, and grandfather always told me there was no such thing as a saftey button on a gun! The safety was YOU!! I know we all on this site and many others have probably been taught the samething!!! WE must preach it to NO end! AS well set a example for any new comer to our sport! Hunting, target shooting, Comp, or just owning a gun for self defence. It's really the only way! Knowledge is power! We can all come up with a explianation, or excuse as to what happen, If a mistake was made, but that doesn't bring someone back to life! There is a certain amount of risk everytime we all pick up a firearm! We must understand it, Know it, and always do our best to NOT make a mistake! We must All as gun owners try to teach as many ppl as we can the right way to handle firearms and do their best to not make a mistake! I love my freedom! I love my guns!! FREEDOM doesn't come FREE!! I must take resopnsiblity for my guns, and teach as many ppl as I can to BE SAFE!! In other words if my kids were fat I wouldn't sue Burger King or McDonalds because of it!!! My kids and anybody I meet are my responsibiltity to make sure they understand how to handle a firearm SAFELY!!!!!!!!

If YOU, Or WE see someone handling a firearm without care. Don't shake your head, look over to your buddy and say look at this dumb a**. Use some manners and politely inform them of what could take place if they continue to do as they are doing. Talk to them, do your best to reason with them! It could save your life, their life, or your kids life one day! We can't save them all, but must try to save as many as we can!!! Teach teach teach!!! It's the only thing that's going to keep us safe, and our love of the sport SAFE!!!!
Mark!!

Thank you for posting this reminder. It is so hard to read the newspaper and hear of hunting and firearm accidents. Safety can never be stressed enough. Hunting is a family activity, and the only way we will be able to have it continue after us is to teach our children, and all young people within our sphere of influence, that safety comes first. There are no second chances and no taking back what has already occurred. The tragedy is for keeps.
