Bat PPC/308

I have noted on several occasions in reference to a particular BAT actions that it is "PPC/308" bolt head. What gives? Have they developed a bolt head that will take either cartridge rim?

It`s the .308 bolt face diameter with a Sako extractor.

The Sako extractor will grab the PPC rim and pull it.

.308 bolt face is .473

PPC is .440

.033 total difference or .0165 per side.

.015625 is a sixty fourth of an inch, just less than the difference in the cases.

If your brass fits the chamber as it should, body taper and shoulder contact, the bolt face will be flat against the bottom of the case.

I like things to be as exact as possible, so i understand your concern, but with the case fitting the chamber properly i don`t see there being any problems or movement.

The base of your brass is not going to be moving independently side to side while the rest of it is held tight.

Phil, no offense, but virtually everything you said here is wrong.

The extractor does not have to be a sako style and most aren't.
The nominal diameters being .440 and .473 yields a difference of .033"..just a shade over 1/32"(.0313") total and .0156(1/64") per side.

From an accuracy standpoint, I'd rather the bolt face be a bit too big than too tight. With raceway clearances alone, the bolt could very well push the case to one side, if the bolt face and rim diameter are too close. A little clearance here can't hurt, from an accuracy standpoint.

OH $h***.......................

I totally got my numbers fouled up..... :-\

I will go back and correct them, thanks for watching over me...... ;)

P.S....I was always told that the Sako was the "ticket" so i guess i learned something new today...

No problem, Phil. I hope I didn't come across rudely.
A Sako extractor will usually have more travel, making it a little more forgiving here, but with only about .015" difference, the sliding plate and even a Remington style will usually pull both. Ejecting is another story. That's where better control of the case, by the extractor helps. Not all actions are equal in this regard, as some are better than others at reliably ejecting with a combo bolt face.--Mike Ezell

Not at all Mike,
I`m glad you cought my mistake so we can have the correct info out there.

Phil.

I have a bat sv and i can't speak for everyone else but, mine is very accurate. My son won't even let me shoot it. It was built by Duplin Rifles. Seems the more he shoots it the better it gets.
