Bat Model B questions.

Hello

I'm looking at having a 6mm Dasher built on the model B action. The BAT phone line is hot and busy, and I know I'll get the right answers here.

I would like a RB, LP, RE, but I'm not sure how large the right eject port should be? Options are 1.8 or 2.2 inches.
For bolt face, I usually see 308, but in this case, there is a PPC/BR option. I'm guessing that would be the right one.
Recoil lug wise, I'd like to know if I needed one for this caliber? All my other rifles have a recoil lug, and I would feel more comfortable having one. Of course, I'm always open for something new :DD I have no experience whatsoever with BAT actions. I only read that they are great!

Thank you!

If all you gonna shoot is the dasher then 1.8" ejection port is all you will need. If you decide later you want to shoot say a 6-47 or 6.5-284 then go with the 2.2

I have a Dasher that is on a BAT model B.... RBLPRE.
It has the .308 boltface and 2.2" ejection port.
I did not have a recoil lug installed, and have not felt that I needed one.

Having the larger ejection port may allow you to use other calibers, which may be important.

BAT recommends you do not use a additional lug...
The cut out on the bottom will be more than enough, along with the rear tang the way it is bedded...

You need a 1.8" port with .308 bolt face and angled ejection port. Or you could order a Kelbly F-class left port right micro with tg ejector and shoot out shoot that BAT.

Good advice. You could get your integrated recoil lug along with MOA rail in either dove tail or picatinny. I like the Panda because the TG static ejector puts no pressure on the case when the bolt is closed.

There are many options for one to consider. Every shooter thinks that he/she has the perfect rig and I am no exception. I have an old BAT Mod. B with the forward 2.2 inch right ejection port and the Winchester type extractor. It is glued in a Terry Leonard stock and has been for more than 20 years. I have barrels chambered in .22 PPC-short, 6 PPC, 6 Dasher, and .30 BR. This is a RB/LP/RE action and is ejects all of the above cases very reliably. I am not saying that this is the "end-all" rifle for everyone, but it works for me. Good shooting....James Mock PS-DK Hunt's experience that the Sako-type extractor is necessary for proper ejection is not my experience at all. Anyone who has seen me shoot knows that my rifle ejects both the PPC case and the Dasher case very well.

What I'm wondering about is how an aluminum receiver will hold up over time? Does it maintain its shine? Does the metal age well? Is it susceptible to "dings"?

I have had my 2 Bs for several years. 1 6 Dasher and 1 284 Shehane. They both have integral lugs and rails. Both are 2 lug as per Bruce's advice. He used to compete with the 284, successfully. They both make 17lb weight with Nightforces BR,Comp and typical barrels. I sold an awesome m to a good friend because there were too many compromises to make 17 lbs.
They are both smooth and I have won at Deep Creek 1000 yards with both including small Light Gun group of the year in 2012, that was an awesome barrel. I do have some rare improvements on mine, although not needed in my opinion. The hex beds better. Get a 284 ejection port or you will always wonder if. My Bats function better than I do on the line. No problems in 1000s of hot rounds, with the actions.
I have hardly used them in the last 2 years as my work has me traveling hard... I miss shooting them.

p.s. Listen to Alex when he talks, zfastmalibu, above. He knows this stuff as good as anybody. He can also walk the walk... to the winners circle, anywhere.

Aluminum will oxidize....so if its polished, you need to maintain the polish. If its bead blasted....it will pretty much keep the same look. There is a steel sleeve inside the aluminum, so it will hold up for sure. Dings, anything is susceptible to dings if not careful. Aluminum is much softer than steel, so yes I can ding easy. Scope tubes are made out of aluminum so...
