BAT Bolt Cone face machining

Thanks for the input guys.

Not to complicate this further...

I have two BAT bolts, one I am currently shooting in F-open using a 6x47 Bartlien which barely fits. If the chamber entrance gets very dirty, this bolt wont close. My second spare BAT bolt doesnt come close to closing on an empty chamber.

I also have a second brand new krieger barrel in 6.5x47 headspaced to the same action and supposedly cone face cut to match the bolt currently in service.

I guess im going to send all this mess to someone to who can straighten it out - after the end of the season.

Any suggestions as to who can fix it - is appreciated.
BAT is like best suited to make the bolts the same. Other smith's could do it but they made it and should be well tooled to correct/change it. This is in regard to the bolt. Checking and/or correcting the barrel tenon is an easy enough job and I think BAT can do that as well. Both are very likely simple fixes unless the bolt needs a significant amount of material to be removed.

Hey all,

I have a BAT 2 lug coned face .308 style bolt. It is too close to the mating cone face on the chamber entrance.

It needs about .010" removed from the 25 degree cone face.

Is this something a competent machinist/smith can do? Or does it need to go back to BAT?

Seems like the bolt handle is in the way of chucking it up.

SG4247, I'm sure glad I waited a while before responding to your thread because if I had said what I was inclined to say after reading the entire thread, I'm sure the moderator would have removed it. So,,, I'll try to be nice and as helpful as possible.

First let me say, Don't touch those BAT bolts! That's not your problem. Your problem is whoever installed your barrels! Some very experienced, knowledgeable people have given you some good advice here. Listen to 'em!

Good luck

Im glad I posted my issue, before machining any parts!

This rifle was very expensive, is very accurate, and I certainly dont want to make the wrong correction to the machine work.

Thanks for all the replies
