Bat B 30BR Stiff Bolt Open/Close

So I have a Bat B I’ve changed the firing spring on. While I did this, I changed the bolt to a roller cocker and the stroud to a DS. The trigger hanger is set to zero. With no case in the chamber, the bolt closes and open stiffer and feels like like I’ve got a case this wasn’t sized enough in the chamber. Again though, there’s not a case in the chamber. I tried calling Bat a couple times and will continue to try but if anyone has a suggestion, I’d welcome it. I’m not sure if my expectations are wrong or there’s something I’m missing.

Got any pictures? This is definitely a binding issue. Either the cocking piece to the shroud, shroud to action, or the pin that holds the roller cam to the cocking piece. See photos below, this was the last DS roller cocking piece I received from BAT. Notice how proud the pin is. This would cause the issue you are describing. I used a jewelers file to knock the pin down. ED979DC7-2FCB-4581-920A-63E084CD514F.jpeg4A32516E-F981-4F4F-88EF-6D204D75D56B.jpeg

Did you set the gap between the end of the roller and the bolt/should? I think it supposed to be about .020 but check with BAT to be sure, I did mine end of last year and before I replaced I measured that gap and set the new one the same and it works perfect. Good luck!

Two things, I would send an email. I understand that they are more responsive to that form of communication lately. Secondly, I would color the entire cocking piece with a broad tipped marker, reassemble and cycle the bolt a couple of times before reexamining the cocking piece. I once got a new action that had the bottom of the cocking piece dragging slightly on the bottom of the groove in the bottom of the action. A little careful work with a diamond lap fixed that. It was not a BAT.

I agree with Boyd and another check I would do is assemble the cocking piece, shroud, and firing pin without the spring and make sure there’s no binding in the shroud itself. This will allow you to move it back and forth without spring tension.

I had a firing pin that was loose and when I disassembled it the firing pin was tight going through the shroud. I ended up getting a new firing pin to fix this issue.

There are 2 springs Bat has for the B. A 21 and and 25 pound. Compare your springs. The 21 is longer and has more coils. Side by side the difference is obvious. If you have the same spring as before (most likely its the 21). They the parts just need fitting. You have to do a little work on these to get them to open and close really sweet. Out of the box they are a little out of time usually.

I only saw one option when ordering my spring but the new and old springs are clearly different and you described them perfectly. The new spring is shorter with less coils but definitely stiffer. I had assumed the old one was just worn out. How do I correct?

I did email Bat yesterday and this morning with my issue.

Your old one is probaly fine. Push it on a scale and see what it measures. Just email Bat and explain what happened and that you want the light spring. But that heavy spring and cci's agg really well.

A buddy of mine just went through this for his VR (I think he called them.) Bat told him it's a new spring design.
