bat actions?

Hello everyone,
I am new to the site and have found some great info here. I am looking to start a 6.5-284 project. This rifle will be used eventually to shoot the f class. I will probably shoot the first barrel out getting ready learning the
rifle and how to read condition before I every shoot in a match. I have been looking at the Bat action as my platform to build off of. Either the M model or the 3LL model are the two I am looking at. Has any of you used a Bat action or had any experience with a Bat action? What are some of the other great actions out there? I have pretty much eliminated the Rem 700 and the savage. Not because they are not any good but, I am looking to go complete custom.

Don't wait too long to go to a match. You will shorten the learning curve quite a bit by observing and getting pointers from the really experienced shooters. They are not there to put anyone down. I waited to try Long Range and XC and regret it.

You are starting with the best. You will never go wrong with a Bat. I had a M and now have a B. I got the M RBLP RT eject to build up to a 6.5 x 284 but built a 6BR for a long range 20 lb heavy gun. I rebuilt this gun to a 6BRX LG to shoot one gun for both classes in 600 yd IBS benchrest. I shot 3 IBS records with this gun. The three lug is a good action too.

Just one thing on the 6.5 284. It is a great long range round, but it is a barrel buner sometimes 1200 rounds or less 1000yd accuracy. The US Fclass shot them at one time, but most have gone to something more barrel friendly. I know one guy on the team, that would not shoot a match with 800 or more rounds on the barrel, for fear of it going bad during the match.

As good as it gets. I'm partial to the 3 lugs, but the 2 lugs are nice as well.

I just took delivery of a new 1.550 BAT M, and it's as slick as my SV and 3L are...
The bolts run in the actions like little greased pigs, I'll never ever buy any other action than a BAT from now on....
My other custom action has been a problem from the day it was ordered, and is for sale now that I have the M
I would look really close at the 7mm's before doing a 6.5x284.. a stock .284 is a sleeper...

Bruce Thom,BAT) is incredible.
He has bailed me out with needed parts several times, immediately.
He is also open to doing projects a little differently than usual. I've challenged him make some really cool stuff. All handled through email, and he nailed them. Just what I needed.

I built my F-Class rifle with the Bat 3 lug long action in 284Win. I am very happy with the action and the choice of caliber. Bruce is great to work with, and the work does with his actions is just amazing. I had my action built with an integrated 20 MOA base and recoil lug, and I wouldn't go back and change a thing even if I could. I am very happy with my Bat. The best practice you could get would be going to matches or finding a league to shoot in, don't feel like you are not able to shoot well enough, the NRA does use a handicapping system.
