bat actions

Hi guys I could use some information about Bat actions.I'm going to build a 17# 600 and 1000 yard gun.I'm leaning towards a MB model,i've tried calling them can;t seem to ever get through.Anyone have any idea about the wait on an action now from them.I;m going to chamber it for 6mmbr.do they have a better model?. thanks

I have the B.A.T. RB/LP SV model for my 6mmBR, and it is sized just right for it.
Pac-Nor should ship my new 8T 3G SS/SM barrel next week sometime, and then we'll glue it all together, and post a photo. It's been about 6 months in the making, and thank god it's on the down hill side finally.

I forgot to add, that the phone calling must be done at a certain time. I believe it's from 3-5 certain days.there time, but you may want to check that closer. If my memory is working it's on the answering machine about the times to call.
It's busy a lot of the time, but well worth the wait.

Call them between 3:00 and 5:00 P.M. Pacific time and if the phone isn't busy Tom will help you.
The orders are coming in faster than they can make the actions right now, that is what is causing the delay.
They make actions in batches of certain types so if they are starting to make what you want it won't take long, but if they just got finished it may be a while before the get to that style again.
Just ask Tom what the are making now and if it is what you want see if one is still available.
I got a 3-lug in 4 months by doing that.
Things happen and you may get what you want early.

I have the M action it is a big action. If i had it to do over it would be an SV or the new 3 lug action.

A 8.5 MB Left hand Multi Flat and I'm happy to say is at the FFL and I pick it up Tomorrow. They say mine took so long becaus it was left handed. Now some of you guys need to get that 6.5x47 a try at 1000 yards and let me know it that is the way I need to go on the chamber?

I ordered a round MB and it was indeed delivered around 4 months after ordering. From what I heard, they are VERY busy with making actions.

I ordered my SV when they irst announced them a coupel years ago for the introductory price, and I recently ordered another from Bruno's. I think my wait was about 4 months for the first one and 1 week for the 2nd one since it was in stock.
Mike Bryant just finsihed my 6BRX and it shipped today!!

Lynn,

There's a guy over on the wet side of the mountains that I shoot w/ from time to time that swears by BAT actions... says he's had at least one of most current 'custom' actions at one point or another ,maybe not Surgeon, he's a HP/LR shooter, not a tactical type)... and he has seven BAT's w/ a couple more on order. He mentioned the Barnard as not being too bad for the money,we were at a Palma match at the time). Pretty strong recommendation!!!

What specifically makes the BAT so desirable, as compared to the relative plethora of precision CNC'd actions on the market today, such as the Viper SS, or the Barnard, or the Surgeon?

TIA,

Monte

The BAT tolerances are second to none and the smoothness of operation is unsurpassed. The other actions available are very nice but if blindfolded you could probaly pick the BAT out of a crowd of others just by the feel.
I heard from a F-Class shooter of some notoriety about the action you mentioned but i haven't seen it yet. When he gets it put together i and i get a few minutes with it i will re-post.
If i don't have first hand experience with something i don't like saying much about it.

There is not doubt that BAT actions are one of the best on the market. They are one of the dominant actions in equipment lists. I've personally never owned or handled one. At a short-range BR match in California, a Stiller Diamondback was set up next to a BAT action for shooters to compare,by I believe Mike Marcelli). The Diamondback was considered to be smoother in operation. I owned a Stiller Viper that was VERY smooth. I now own and shoot the Borden Rimrock actions that are about the same as the Viper for smoothness. There are a couple of things I like about the Rimrock over the BATs. The bolt/bolt handle are all one piece and are machined out of a billet of steel. The bolt handle is not soldered on like it is on the BAT. Also, the Rimrock's Receiver is made out of 15-5 Stainless-Steel, which I believe is known to be stronger and more resistant to galling than the 17-4 Stainless-Steel the BATs are made out of. Also, Jim Borden fits and times a trigger to each individual action before it leaves his shop. On the Borden action I currently have, the cocking/timing is great. That LV 6PPC shoots phenominally.

I am currently in the process of building a short-range BR rifle on a RB/RP/RE 1.470" Rimrock action. It will be going into a Scoville stock, have a Krieger barrel chambered with my .269" neck 6PPC reamer, will have the new Kelbly trigger, and will be topped with a Weaver T-36 for now.

You really can't go wrong with a Viper, Rimrock, Kelby or BAT action. Those are the actions that I would consider when building a custom rifle.

Trigger timing is good to bring up. With my Bat action orders, I included jewels installed and tested. The SVs, and RS I have are one piece bolts. I even had a dummy action made to match an action for remote headspacing/chambering without sending my actual shooting barrel to a gunsmith.
The Bat bases and rings are worth adding to the order also. With my last SV, I had the engravings done where completely covered by the stainless weaver style base they offer. That gives the action potential for fancy engraving down the road. Questionable legality, but who cares.
I like that no recoil lug is needed with the SVs. One less factor to deal with. The RS has one built into the action bottom.
Bruce has been quick to help out with details as well. He sent me a bag of varying thickness extractors so that I could pull/eject my brass perfectly. Same with action bolts needed in a hurry. I'm happy with Bat. They get my business.

My BAT SV has a seperate bolt handle attached to it. I believe all BATs use seperate bolt handles like most custom actions do. The Nesika and Borden are the only two that I know of that have one piece bolts machined from a billet.

My SV also has the integral recoil lug on the bottom of the action.
