BAT 3l into Manners EHF1A

Hi all,

I'd like to know if anyone has any experience of inletting a Manners EHF1A to accept a BAT 3l (1.35 round) Particularly that the stock is deep enough to accept the tang without the trigger being too low in the trigger guard. I'm planning on using a Jewel with a BAT hanger and trigger guard. I don't mind the fact that the tang will be thick but I want it to bottom out on the stock top? I'm concerned that a benchrest action into this stock is too deep??

Thanks,

I don't have any experience with that particular combo but I have put 1.35 Bat actions in a few stocks without issues. The 1.55 and bigger would be a different story. I would also give manners a call they may do a custom inlet for you. Is the stock already inlet? The only area that would be of concerns I would think is the tang but since you don't mind it riding hi that alleviates a lot of issue.

Thanks for your reply Nick.

I do not have the stock yet and have emailed Manners to see what they say, I have assumed it would be a flat top at this stage and inlet by my smith as Manners do not list this action inlet. As long as the tang is not floating above the stock I don't mind. I don't want to start having the area around the tang built up as I don't want to paint the stock.

I'll see what Manners have to say.

Manners may have good news for you. They offered to do a Panda FCLASS inlet for me but they said they needed my barreled action for 14 plus weeks so I decided to go with McMillan. But I am sure they will work with you. I have had great experiences with them on other projects in the past.

Well, Manners have said that the stock would need to be built up about 5mm but thats not an option as I wanted a moulded in finish not painted. BAT have been helpful and said that the Tang will contact the stock but that it would not be into the surface so no bedding in that area/recoil support. As it's to be a 6mm BR recoil should not be an issue so it will be an aesthetic thing. I've looked online at lots of photos and even on bench rest stocks it's not uncommon to see tangs sitting very high. I'm not bothered about it being flush but would like ti sink it in a bit. I'll keep looking for more photos of a bench rest action in whats basically a Remington profiled stock. Off the the Smith on Friday to see what his thoughts are.
