Barrels what’s the best 4 or 6 groove maybe 5R ??

Ordering new Kreger barrels six mill
1) 7.5 twist for 6xc
1) 14 twist for 6ppc
Any opinions on rifling
4 groove
5R
6 Groove ????

Best barrel I've had in 20+ years was a 6mm 6 groove 14tw Hart. 6ppc. That barrel was spooky accurate.

The 1-7.5 Twist, IS Perfect for, the 6 XC with, 80 gr to 110 grain, Bullets !

There is an old anecdote that has been in Benchrest for decades. to paraphrase…….”Did you hear, ole Megaford just won the Super Duper Shoot with a (name barrel). I gotta get one”.

Of course, looking down the equipment list, so did the shooters that came in 10th, 15th, 30th, and dead last.

4 groove 13.5 for the ppc and 4 groove 7.5 for the xc is what I ordered and found out they are going to rush them out to me in12 months!!!

Can't say one shoots better than the other but I prefer to chamber 4 groove bbls at this time. Other options shoot. Maybe there needs to be more research put into this than what has been done. Things change.

I have Krieger 7.5 twist HV and 13.5 twist LV in stock, both four groove, $930 shipped for the pair. I would buy 4 groove.

I have heard Frank Green from Bartlein Barrels mention some, but have not seen them myself. Maybe Mr. Green will chime in.

I vote 6 groove, seams to have given me more rds better on score and for some reason cleans up with less patches. Just me! Have 2 5r next to try will compare.

Technically, there will be less jacket distorsion from a barrel having odd numbers of lands/grooves. Lands that are directly opposite put more compression force on the projectile jacket.

That said, just about every record that you can name has been set with 4 or 6 groove barrels. Part of the equation is that there have been infinitely more barrels made with 4 or 6 grooves as opposed to 5 groove.
