Barrel weight for a chassis rifle

I'm going to put a T3 into a chassis and chamber it in 6slr. Havent decided which chassis but it will likely be one of the lower cost ones like MDT. Its a "just cos I can" exercise.

I like heavy barrels and my two favorite rifles have lilja no7 barrels which pretty much replicate Remington varmint profile.

the question to owners of chassis rifles is:-

Is this barrel profile too heavy for a chassis? would I be better of for balance and feel to use a lighter barrel and maybe install a brake to dampen muzzle flip that the heavier barrel would help control??

very happy to hear opinions on chassis's available for T3 action also

I have one varmint weight barrel in a light chassis style stock and a matching barrel with a HS precision stock. Any suggestions on bag setup, the HS stock is much steadier(don't see my pulse movement) compared to the chassis stock. Both have 20 power max scopes, using same front and rear bags.

I'm working on a custom 6mm build for PRS type comps and I am staying around that 17-18 pound mark with the focus of not being too heavy if hauling around for the more field type matches, but still enough weight to help with recoil management. I do agree with Frank that we are going to come full circle on the heavy rigs if comps start to involve more movement during and between stages.

26" barrel with a 1" muzzle diameter and a 2 lbs scope will make the overall weight of the system between 17 and 19 lbs depending on the chassis and butt-stock.

If you want it to weight around 15 to 16 pounds, then a muzzle diameter of 0.900"-0.920" (palma / MTU type profile) will be best.

If you go with a muzzle diameter of 0.800"-0.840" then the system should weight between 12.5 and 14 lbs.

The above weights are rough estimates with 26" barrels.... Scope / rings, chassis type / butt-stock and accessories can vary quite a bit in weight, so the final weight can vary between 2 similar rifles.

I have a short action Savage with a 26" Shilen select match Varmint contour (0.800 muzzle diameter) 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, Area 419 hellfire brake, Badger Ordnance 20 MOA rail, Badger Ordnance 34mm rings, Athlon Optics Ares ETR scope, Accuracy 1st bubble level, everything set in a XLR Element chassis with folding tactical stock and Harris benchrest swivel bipod attached. So having said allll of that, the weight of the total package is 15lbs. It's not lite by any means but very manageable.
