Barrel Twist Of Savage 112-V Swift?

Anybody have one? Need to know if the Varmint model .220 Swift factory barrels (26" fluted) had rates of 1:14 or 1:12.

I've been watching this to see if anybody had an expert opinion but none so far. From my experience with numerous Savage barrels I report that 220 Swift and 22-250 barrels were 1:12 twist since the old J series. I had a J model way back but I didn't check the twist since I mostly used 55 Vmax in those days. It might have been 1:14 don't know for sure. The 12 twist works great for 60 Vmax which is a fine long range prairie dog bullet and handles the 50-55 bullets just fine. I shot well over 100,000 rounds of Swift over the years and still own a couple. Don't use them much since I discovered 204R.

60 grain V-Max and the high BC 53 V-Max are exactly the reason I want the 12-twist. Got a line on a 112-V but the seller hasn't replied with many details. Have read that all or most Savage lines in Swift/.22-250 went from 14 to 12 in '92.
Also, Hotshot: How would you rate the 60 V-Max in terminal performance at distance, compared to the .204? I'm looking for a bit more knockdown power than my .204s on coyotes and woodchucks without having to go my .243s, after a serious shoulder injury and resultant recoil sensitivity. Put away my .22 CFs shooting 50-55 grainers after getting .204 Rugers as they were so close ballistically; just thinking the 60 and 53V-Maxes might be game-changers - but maybe not.

If I was building a 22 cal for 400-600+ yard prairie dogs it would be a 12 twist swift shooting the 60 Vmax. I love them. Performance as far as stability, trajectory and energy is distinctly better than any of the 50-55 grain bullets I used for decades in 14 twist.
That being said, a 204R does it as well or better to 600 except the energy and way less cleaning and cooling time. I am using a 20 BR for those longer shots now and you should take a good look at that cartridge for your needs. Might be just the ticket for your needs. 40Vmax above 4000 fps with no pressure issues handles varmint targets to 500+ with ease and the Berger 55grain bullets out of a 9 twist are good to well over 1000 I hear. I've had hits at 700-800 yards on prairie dogs that killed them immediately.

I have a 220swift in a 112 savage action and it is a 12 twist my target load is 36gr of 4841 and use 52gr smk varmit

does anyone know what twist the 112j, single shot (stipled palmswell) 220 swift is/was. I know I can measure it but hoping someone has some first hand knowledge.

Those were nice rifles. I remember them when they were new. Were many ever made?
