Barrel Twist for 30 Cal 187 BIBs??

What barrel twist are people using for the 187 30 Cal BIBs; and do you jump the of load them into the lands? I am looking at velocities in the 2700 fps range.
Thanks

Hi Tony , I have used this projectile for the last 8 years but at a lot higher speeds .. Mine have been in from 12.8in to 13.5in twist.. That said the guy who makes em still today recommends a 12.5in twist .. At 2700 i would probably try a 12in 5C broughton as my 13 twist of the loved that type of rifling ..JR..Jeff Rogers.. Ps .if your going to run them in that small a case why don't you get Randy to make you some 155s

Thanks, Jeff. I have a 308 Win 1:12 I use with the Berger 185HPLRBT and I wanted to try the BIBs just for 300 yards. Hopefully, the velocity will not be such a big deal at that range. Might need a longer throat to do it though. I haven't had a chance to measure a dummy round yet. It would seem that the bearing surface would be longer than the Berger. Now that I know that the 1:12 will work, I'll see if my throat is long enough. I have thought about the 155s as well. I have some of the Berger 155.5s and I'll have to see what sort of velocity I can get with those. My barrel is also a Broughton 5C and it shoots the 185 Bergers very well.

I shoot the Bib 187 in a 308 Win with speeds above 2,700 without issue in a 14 twist (yes a 14 twist) they are exceptional out to 800 meters then the wheels fall off and they won’t hold 4 moa at 1000.
Randy’s bullets have turned out to be the most accurate bullets I ever have shot. I have compared them against scenars, sierra, and other customs. (wind effects on the bullet are a different matter) They just flat out shoot. One of the other board members here aka Lynn gave me a good piece of advice and that was too make sure the base of the bullet does not fall below the neck shoulder junction, that was good advised as the groups really tightened up when I adjusted the seating length long to match Lynn’s advice. Based on my measurements my OAL is 3.021 and to the ojive is 2.240. I am into the lands. I have ordered s slightly faster twist to keep the bullets stable for those extra 200 and hope to have the barrel ready for next season.

I moly my bullets and load above max using Varget so I am reluctant to give my powder charges.

Thanks
Trevor
