Since both are a belted magnum, that does simplify the process a little.
You will need an action wrench as well as a good barrel vice.
If you send it to a gunsmith, you have shipping cost, which is no small thing now days. Plus, depending on the circumstances, it might have to go from FFL to FFL.. it would be nice if you knew a gunsmith local.

This is the sort of job I used to do while the customer waited, and while he watched, if he wanted (I always had an open-door policy, as long as you didn't get in my way!). In the seventies, I generally charged ten bucks. By the eighties it was up to twenty. Today, fifty is more like it 
. In truth, today, I live far enough off the beaten path that no one drops in with barrel in hand anymore.
I always liked the customer to be there so that, when the sights ended up at 10 o'clock, he could decide whether or not he wanted to spend the extra money it was going to take to put them on top.
A point of interest: pre-64 Winchesters almost always index properly. In fact, a barrel from a Model 54 will almost always index correctly on a pre-64 Model 70. This not the case on Remingtons, Mausers, Rugers, or most anything else. I believe 1903 Springfields will index. WH
