Barrel storage/rack ideas

Hi,

As a gunsmith I am in need of some ideas on how to store 50-100 barrels.

Most of the barrels are contoured. Is it best to store the horizontal or vertical?
I also need to keep ease of stocktake in mind.

Thanks in advance
Chrisjan

I have been thinking about making a rack out of steel and stacking PVC pipe in it. Just stack them honey comb like.

I'm not sure I'm ok with these barrel racks on the ceiling. Of course I'm stocking a lot of heavy 31 and 33" barrels. Just received a batch of 33" 1.35" straight barrel blanks...heavy.

Still, even with more normal blanks, if you get that ceiling rack full, I'd want more than a few pocket screws...looks like there are 10 screws total into 2 joists...so that's probably less than 10 lbs/screw. I guess it should be ok. but it still makes me nervous.

don't let the rack fall on your head, or your car, or even on the floor and damage all those barrels.

Mine is mounted on a wall - outside corner - and has a tool hanger peg-board on the side. :eek:RG

I was lucky to acquire one with other shooting items about 20 years ago from Red Cornelison's estate. 24-30 barrels and is similar to bill123, but mine is on rollers and has a fitted cover over it. Important here as mud dobbers can ruin a barrel in short order.
