Thank you JackI set my competition barrels back on a regular basis.
I generally take about 1/8 off the crown, just to be safe.
How much do you normally take of the breech?I set my competition barrels back on a regular basis.

I am really anal about keeping the throat fresh. How much do you normally take of the breech?
Yes reamers are expensive especially when you start trying different sizes on them, barrel steel is soft until you shoot it, it work hardens as you shoot it.Some Smiths say they will not set a barrel back “unless the client provides his own reamer”. Sighting possible damage to the reamer.
Any comments as to that ?
Will a carbide reamer be the solution?Yes reamers are expensive especially when you start trying different sizes on them, barrel steel is soft until you shoot it, it work hardens as you shoot it.
The throat and leade get the hardest and now try to cut it, you will be damaging the most important part of the reamer
