Barrel Question

I have a question when buying a quality Barrel from companies like lilja, Krieger, Bartlein ect. As far as accuracy is concerned, does it make much or any difference if the barrel is made from carbon or stainless steel, the application is occasional Target and Varmint shooting, I figured you competition Shooters would have the answers I'm looking for thanks your time fellas.

That has a lot to your application stainless will give longer throat life because of less carbon one shooting any better not really.

Everyone uses stainless in competition. The rationale is supposedly better barrel life, which makes sense, but isn't a huge factor. Maintenance is easier, too. But I have (one) blued custom barrel and it shoots fine.

I have been told by the manufactures they can achieve better surface finish and machinability is better with SS. I would say my experience mirrors that.

There you have it. Stainless is easier to maintain and lasts longer. Carbon takes more effort to clean and won't last as long. Any of the makers you mentioned make fine barrels and don't forget the Kreigers, mostly because the others often have a waiting period to actually get. Been there, done that. Just my .02 worth.
