Barrel question...

I am looking at the order form page on Pac-Nor's website. It shows I can order a 6.5x55 CIP or a 6.5x55 NO throat. Can someone please explain what CIP and NO Throat are? Thanks.

Adam

CIP standard is exactly that for the cartridge. No throat means it has no throat in preparation for throating after the fact. Normally the 6.5 swede has a very long throat but if you are setting up one in a hunting rifle in say a 10 twist for lighter bullets then you'll want it throated shorter than CIP. If you want to build a target rifle to shoot the 155grn bullets then maybe you want it throated a certain way for that bullet.

Thanks Minesweeper. Just to make sure I fully understand you, CIP is a form of testing that is done to make sure the ammo and cartridge are safe for civilians, correct? When CIP is conducting their testing, is it done at SAAMI specs?

CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente)is to Europe...what SAAMI is to the US. The swede being born in Europe obviously fell under their standards.
