Barrel question for the chamber cutting guys

Just a quick question ..
Can a target barrel chambered in 17 remington be set back fare enough for a 17 fireball to work..granted I hear small to large is the correct way..I was just wondering.
Thank you

I would think as long as you are going bigger and longer it'll work.

Almost any target barrel can be set back that amount. Usually about 2 inches of shank on most target barrels. Do you have the barrel to look at it?

No I do not have the gun. I want a 17 fireball and forum member offered to sell me a 17 remington.. I want the gun ..just not a 17 remington ..perhaps its just best to buy a new barrel..I'm doing everything I can so I do not need to build one from scratch.. I just don't have the funds for that.

Last time I was there, which was about two weeks ago, Cabelas in Tulalip WA had a 700 or something in either 221 or 17 fireball. Probably still have it. I think they were asking $750

Only problem is hes going way shorter. Like my man gmac said its all about the current tenon and can you shorten it over 1"
That makes sense. Sorry I was a little out of it. Sliced myself in the shop pretty good.

PacNor and others make a Savage style nut for the Remingtons. You could undoubtedly cut off and rechamber the factory bbl using this idea. I use the PacNor nuts on my 40X rimfires specifically so I don't have a torque shoulder on the bbl tenon. Heck, I probably have a spare PacNor nut I would sell you !! PM if interested.

Hello riflewoman..I will give them a call . I believe you purchased some lead off me..did it work out for you

Depends on the barrel shank length/dia. You would have the shorten the barrel by just under 1/2". I would think it would work

I believe it was a right hand 17 remington..not fireball..I'm not 100% sure ..that is what I could tell online..
Nope you were 100% correct..its a stainless steel remington 700 in 17 fireball..just what I was looking for..unfortunately its a right hand bolt..I want a lefty..thank you for the heads up ..my search continues
