Barrel polishing

Can anyone provide a source for having this work done? Want a chrome look in the end.

For what it's worth, Tony Boyer does nothing with his barrels when they come from the factory except chamber them. Why? He says that it dissipates heat better that way. It sounds like an ugly barrel shoots better. I'm going to give it a try, the next time I rebarrel.

A good smith can do it,
Jim Hart has a dedicated lathe to polish barrels. at Hart Rifle Barrels You start out with medium paper and work your way down to finer grits .
I have seen some that look like chrome.
Final polish is done with crocus cloths.

Clay Spencer says the same thing...He bead blasts (if you want) them for even better cooling.

Bearry..

I would first look locally for a Hot Rod/Bike shop and approach them. I would think you could find something in Missoula or CourDelane/Spokane.. Maybe give Bruce T. or Dan L. a call and ask to point you in the right direction.

Polishing is nothing more than first having the proper equip and paitence... I have done it long ago with acrlyics and such, so for grins and giggles I am gearing up to do AL & SS myself. Collecting a few 3M wheels right now.

For what it'sd worth...I had my 22br barrel polished when I had it built. It showed finger prints all the time and everything else. It didn't take me long to have it bead blasted.

Barry: If you want to get a chrome like finish to stainless or even chrome moly, try "Simichrome Polish", made by Happich, a German company, available at motorcycle shops, and even most local hardware stores. A 1.76 oz tube (goes a long way) sells for around $8, and well worth it. Martin: I agree, tough to keep looking good if you regularly handle it, and that's why I make it a point to handle the rifles by the stock only. When I do pickup some marks, they easily polish out with the simichrome. I also can get marks on my bead blasted barrels, but they clean up easily with a simple wipe down with Hoppe's.

You can polish that barrel using a shoe shine method and it will turn out great if you put the time and energy into it.
You need to go at a different angle every time you change grits.
If you want it to shine like the stock and don't feel like doing it, send it to me :)
