Barrel life of a 223 Kreiger - 1:7.7 match barrel

Thanks Dusty. Using those dies, since they are not for the cle chamber, every time you resize, does it not change your shoulder angle every time? Or does it not matter that much?

CLE Chamber has no different shoulder angle from other 223 chambers. The angle that is different is the throat depth and angle, bullet approaching the lands. Your dies wont matter. Some insist on small base dies, I don't agree.

I thought it had a different shoulder angle. That’s where my confusion was

Thanks for the VERY descriptive post. I started shooting benchrest this last year. Obviously not with this rifle. This is just more a project of fun. When I got the barrel, I ran 69 grain black hills and was shocked a ar barrel could be so accurate. So Since reloading for benchrest, being addicted to loading accurate ammo, I wanted to see how far I could take it. For fun of course

You are very welcome,
Glad to see you having fun with an AR and seeing good accuracy.

If you or anyone looking for a dated but great read about AR-15's check out Black Magic: The Ultra Accurate AR-15 from John Feamster written back in 1998. He actually entered a benchrest match with one.

I haven't shot an AR since I was in the Army in the early 70's and liked it a lot as a service weapon. It was easy to shoot with the light recoil and amazingly accurate, even the Army issue versions.

I see a lot of guys at the range with them today pumping 15 to 20 rounds continuously through them often in two or three consecutive strings. Just curious but I wonder how long a barrel can last with that kind of shooting and heat build up.

How did he do with the AR?

I'll have to locate my copy of the book to look it up and get back to you.
I can do that after the Labor Day Weekend.

I know he didn't ( and didn't expect to ) win a benchrest match with an AR he just wanted to do it for fun but I recall it was some impressive groups ( for a Semi Auto / AR ) with light bullet loads he worked up.
