Barrel length

Short answer is NO - if you want magnum performance.

For this cartridge to perform at its maximum potential, slow burning powders are needed which require barrel lengths of 24 to 26" to burn properly. With an 18" barrel, you're tossing a lot of powder down the toilet.

If you want a short barrel 7mm hunting rifle, the 7mm -08 might be ideal.

Kinda like hooking a race horse to a plow: it will work but your limiting it’s speed and what it was built for

Look at the Long Range Hunting site at the specialty pistol section, they run all kinds of magnums with~14 to 16 inch barrels.
