barrel length in .30-06

I am looking for info. on the effect of barrel length and velocity using a .30-06 throated to seat 210gr bullets not lower than the base of the neck with H4350/IMR 4350 powder. In particular, do the long 32" Palma barrels increase velocity over the 28-30" Heavy Varmit ones?
Would appreciate what experience has shown to those who have experimented along these lines.

15 to 20 fps per inch is the most you could expect and 10 fps per inch wouldn't be too surprising. I have 28" and 30" barrel that I shoot with similar combinations and that's about the range of difference.

There is more variation than that among barrels. Thanks for the info. I know you shoot the .30-06 a lot. I'm going to build one with a 30" Krieger to shoot at the Camp Lejuene range which is restricted to .223, .308, or .30-06. My .308 is a little weak at 1000yds. and the .30-06 will give me a big advantage. Besides, I have been shooting one since 1950 and an old guy shooting an old cartridge will give the young .223 boys something to talk about. I might even beat them if the light is good.
Do you know how the new Hornady 208gr. BTHP compares with the A-Max? Had planned to work up loads with the A-Max, Berger, and Sierra to deternine the best combo and wonder if the BTHP is worth trying.
Thanks again

Bill, I sure like that plan and I have no doubt the .223 shooters will take notice.

I haven't tried the Hornady 208, so no specific comment on it. The Berger 210 has worked well for me with H4831sc, but my usual 1000 yard load with the .30-06 is a 190 at 2800 with H4350 - works like a champ.
