barrel length for longrange target pistol?/

Kian

I am gathering parts for building a LR target pistol in a dasher or BR or I do have some 6.5x47 brass as well.

My question is what would be a good length for max powder burn, accuracy, etc...... 17" ???

Thanks for the help,

Kian

i built two on XP's trued with hart bbl, 9 twist, the 15" seemed to give plentyof velocity as well as more than 1 1/2 rotations of the bullet in the bbl, i believe that is necesary to insure stability for longer distnaces.

both would shoot under 1 inch at 200meters with scope .870 was the best group using SIerra 77mk.
the 222 case needed to be 223 or 223ai but the br case was perfect.

Most of mine are 18" and a few are cut to 20".......
16" on my NYS hunting XP-100 because thats the law..

Another thing to consider is if you are going savage striker, you may want 16+" in case you want to spin that barrel off and wield it in a rifle action.
