Barrel length any affect on barrel life?

Only way I could see it playing a role is if say your target velocity is 2900 fps for a certain bullet.
Oversimplified example/theory:
A 24" barrel gets you 2900 with 40 gr of powder. A 26" barrel with 49 gr has an increase in velocity, say 3100 fps.
So, back off powder charge in longer barrel to get desired 2900 fps. Lower powder charge = lower temp = lower pressure = less wear.

In the above calculator, note the significant impact shot rate and powder has on accurate barrel life.
For example, for a bore of .219, 25 grains of powder there is ~ 33% difference in estimated accurate barrel life between TAC and N135.
I wish bullet weight was a criteria so we could compare. I noticed the moly/ hbn option isn't there anymore.

Although it “sounds right” that a longer bullet would create more friction and thus more wear, I haven’t seen any data to back that up. A lot of bullets have pressure ring or bore rider features that probably are where most of the friction occurs. The way that sliding friction is understood and modeled, friction is proportional to the normal force - the force in the direction perpendicular to the direction of motion. This force is greater at a pressure ring or bore rider due to the greater diameter of the bullet at those features.

Right.
I would think that the effect of bullet weight would come from the time the throat is exposed to the highest pressure/temperature. I.e., a heavier bullet would move slower thus exposing the throat area to the highest pressure/temp longer.

Why neuter the 6.5CM witha 16.5" barrel. You might as well go to a cartridge with smaller case capacity and lower velocity if you are after barrel life. Maybe 30BR with a can would make more sense?
