Only way I could see it playing a role is if say your target velocity is 2900 fps for a certain bullet.
Oversimplified example/theory:
A 24" barrel gets you 2900 with 40 gr of powder. A 26" barrel with 49 gr has an increase in velocity, say 3100 fps.
So, back off powder charge in longer barrel to get desired 2900 fps. Lower powder charge = lower temp = lower pressure = less wear.
