Barrel contours

Hello, I am familiar with the straight taper contours vs the Remington varmint contour in size and weight. However, I can't really picture the comparisons between it and the various Palma contours. Can anyone explain to me if the Remington is about the same size as one of the Palma contours. Thanks

Palma contours come in three varieties:

Light palma, medium palma, and heavy palma.

Palma barrels were originally designed for sling shooters where forward weight was a concern.
Palma courses are 800, 900, and 1000 yards requiring the maximum velocity to keep a 155 grain bullet super sonic at 1000 yards. Palma tapers at the muzzle must be .750 .810 to fit a front sight (often larger and turned down 1.5"-2." on the muzzel end).

Short range BR shooters, varmint humters, and tactical shooters often shoot shorter heavier barrels, IE: straight taper or MTU. These barrels are stiffer due to their straight taper.

F-class shooters use Palma Tapers to get the necessary velocity and for weigh reduction. Most of my serious F-Class shooters shoot a 30-32" Heavy Palma barrel.

Gentlemen, thanks for the replies. I am planning on getting back into the across the course game and believe a straight contour barrel might be a bit too heavy. It looks like a medium Palma contour would be light enough for position shooting and be long enough to allow good velocity. Thanks again.
