Barrel contour length for 6BR?????

Set on an 8 twist bbl, to be used for informal paper to 500-600, not likely further unless I change to a range that does go to 1k.

Will use on occasion for varmints ie. crow/coyotes, and a perhaps a few deer and hogs from a stand.

Considering 700 varmint contour, left round/non-fluted to max weight for dia. and also to simplify stock fit/choice decisions and possibly save a few $$$. Also, want 22-23" min. bbl for blast and velocity, realizing using no more than 26" might add a paltry 20-40 fps but perhaps help steadiness at sacrifice of handling, and keep blast even further from ears.

Thoughts? Is a 24" a good compromise? Pros/Cons wanted, thanks.

A 27 inch medium palma taper may provide a good balance for what you are wanting to do.

You are definately on the rite trac...I have had em from 22 to 29 in long and have great results with Light Varmint profile bbls...in the std length,not the xtra long 32" ers...) Tell the gunsmith to use it all ...,there is usually an inch or so at the front end that is wallowed out!!) ...this is what I have found to work well...Roger

Depending on which diameter bullets you'll be shooting, you might look into getting a .236 bore.

Called and they told me today they suggest 237 on light bullets, 236 for heavies.....thanks for the info.....
