Barrel contour advice

I have a Shilen 1" bull barrel for Savage which shoots well, need .815 contour for Varmint class. Your thougths on turning down to .815 , will it ruin accuracy? Would I be better off with new barrel at that contour?
Thanks in advance. Bertoc

Depends on if you want to spend the money on a new barrel. Should be fine turning that barrel down. As long as it's done in a good machine where it is perfectly concentric to the bore, there should be no negative effects on accuracy.

I would also consider the number of rounds through the existing barrel and factor that into the expense to remove the barrel, re-contour, refinish (if necessary) and reinstall. It might just be worth spending the money on a new barrel, but only you can really make that decision.

Personally when it comes to re-doing a worn barrel I'll usually opt for a new one.

What caliber, how much life left?

How does it shoot now?
