Barrel clamps for holding rifle while cleaning

Tod Hendricks

Gold $$ Contributor
Came up with this system for firmly holding my rifles for cleaning.

Clamps are intended for holding theater lights, many varieties on amazon. EZ lock inserts flush in workbench, 1/2” threaded rod, wing nut to take the slop out.

At first look I thought, WTH? But, on closer look, I could make use of something like that. Maybe glue some soft leather on the inside to protect the barrel. Can you post the link?

Pretty cool @Tod Hendricks ..

I was thinking that a sticky back rubber would work well inside the clamps . (Or maybe good o toilet paper rolls like I use for my barrel vise)

Cripes! For 20 years I've just been holding the rifle in the (cleaning) cradle with my left hand, while I cleaned it with my right. Now I can really complicate a simple activity and have more even more stuff to haul around. I'm an idiot! :)

Me too Chris. Left hand holding stock, right arm fully extended with 52" cleaning rod. Had to be a better way.

Don't know about others, but it can take a good amount of force to push a patch with a Jag through my barrel. I have to hold the stock from sliding even in cradle.
This looks like a great idea to me. Simple, easy to open and clamp the barrel into. I would add some cush, like a strip of leather.
Although I would consider two aligned to provide even more stability.
Thanks Todd, I will place my order.

I use the vise on my work bench. I have two pieces of pine cut to the dimension of the jaws of the vice. I clamp the barrel between the pieces of pine in the vise. The rifle doesn't move. Is simple, inexpensive and works perfectly. I've been using this system for over 40+ years.

As for me..... I've GOT all the cradles and vises, Hood's, Lyman, Tipton, MTM, Sinclair, Berry's Versa-Cradle (AWESOME!!), CTK, Cabela's, Hi-Score, Home'Ade and several that are no longer mfgd. Cleaning isn't really my hugest issue altho having some cleaning/soaking/cooling boards set up for verminating will be wikkid hoovis.

What I see here is a way to set up 3-5 guns tightly together for whatever...... A way to hold several rifles securely on the vertical plane to get back some bench/table space, I've even got plans to hang some on the wall.

I already ordered some. I've got pieces of lumber stashed in a corner of the garage and in my shed. Tomorrow I'm going to build a rectangle shaped table wide enough to hold at least 3 rifles at once. The legs will be collapsible. I will attach it to one of my loading tables, (forming a "T") for stability and I will be able to store it against a wall out of the way when not in use.

Sinclair sells a set of magnetic backed, rubber inserts for your vise that works great. Clamp the barrel in and do whatever you need to do! Will never mar a barrel and I have used them for years for cleaning guns and mounting scopes, etc. Russ
